Clubs
Chess
The Centennial Chess Team meets to give students a chance to learn how to play Chess, play matches with other students and participate in City Chess Tournaments.
The club meets daily during 5th and 6th period lunches. Advanced members who want to take their skills to next level are invited to obtain U.S. Chess Federation Memberships and compete in the Columbus Northwest Classic and the East HS Scholastic tournament.
The league play against area high schools will be held at Fort Hayes on every Monday after Martin Luther King Day with an awards and speed chess tournament March 3rd also at Fort Hayes. Students can drop in for a game during any lunch period.
National Honors Society
Membership in the National Honor Society (NHS) is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student. National Honor Society strives to recognize the total student: one who excels in all the following areas:
- Scholarship – Minimum 3.3 GPA
- Leadership – Taking on leadership roles in both the school and/or community will be considered, provided they are verifiable and more than one.
- Service – Two or more actions taken by the student for the benefit of others without any direct financial or material compensation.
- Character – A person of character demonstrates the following six qualities: respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring and citizenship.

Dungeons & Dragons
The Dungeons and Dragons Club meets in the library on Fridays from 2:45 to 5:00. Students can join by just showing up. There are no dues and no experience with Table-Top RPGs is necessary.
Stars Media Group
The Stars Media Group creates social media posts and a weekly broadcast to keep the Centennial community informed about news and upcoming events.
Yearbook
When the club meets - Initial training is held during lunch periods and at most home athletic and artistic performances.
Leadership Team
The goal and purpose of this team is to improve the high school experience for all Centennial students, recognize and shape student role models, and improve school pride and morale. Students are invited to join the team after being nominated by a member of the staff. The team meets from 2:45-4 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Muslim Student Association
The Muslim Student Association’s goal is to create a space where students can build community, participate in meaningful discussions and activities, and learn about Islamic culture and spirituality. The group meets every other Wednesday from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in Ms. Suttle’s room, 104.
Robotics
Centennial Stars of the Galaxy Robotics students participate in First Tech Challenge Robotics competitions. Team members develop a game strategy, and then design, build, and program a robot that will play the game, focusing on the goals we set with our game strategy.
Centennial hosts city wide scrimmages in the fall and participates in district and state competitions. All Robotics competitions are open to the public and free to attend.
Committees
Black History Month Assembly Committee
Centennial’s Black History Month celebration culminates in an all school assembly at the end of February. Students perform in choirs and bands, read poetry and give speeches for students and faculty. A student committee meets with Mrs. Welsh Huggins to plan the Assembly.
Homecoming Committee
Homecoming Committee plans, organizes and facilitates Homecoming celebrations for Centennial. Activities include planning and advertising spirit week, choosing a theme, organizing Homecoming Court nominations and voting, planning the Royal Dinner and ceremony at the football game and decorating for the dance.
International Festival Committee
The Centennial International Festival takes place in April during an all school assembly. This is one of the ways we celebrate our rich diversity. During the assembly, students wear traditional clothing and participate in music, poetry, drumming and dance performances.
Extracurriculars
Marching Band
Marching Band practice begins the end of July and early August with two weeks of Band Camp to learn songs and pregame and half-time shows. Marching band rehearses through the fall football season, performs one indoor concert and ends the season with a Band Olympics celebration.
Vocal Music
Centennial’s Vocal Music Program consists of three choirs; Choir 1, Choir 2 and Mixed Ensemble. Mixed Ensemble requires an audition. The choirs perform a winter and spring concert, at Black History Month Assembly at the Statehouse in December and at Cedar Point in the Spring.
Instrumental Music
Centennial offers classes in Marching Band/Concert Band, Jazz Band, Basic Instruments, Orchestra and Modern Music. Instrumental Music concerts are in the winter and spring. Centennial also hosts the Northwest Strings Festival for area middle school and elementary orchestras to perform with the high school orchestra. Modern Band performs during lunch the final day before Christmas break.
Theatre
Centennial’s Theater Department puts on a fall play and spring musical every year. We participate in the CAPA Marquee Awards in the Spring, which offers students the opportunity to participate in master classes and workshops with Theater professionals as well as participate in the Marquee Awards in May. Students can take theater classes during the school day as well; Theater, Acting and Theater Seminar.
