High School
2017-2018 Attendance Information

  • Parents/Guardians shall call to inform the school if their student(s) will be absent by 9:00 am.

· In order to excuse absences, tardiness and early release, CCS’s require a note with the students’ full name, date of absence, reason for absence and a parent signature within 48 hours of return to school. Notes received more than one week after the students’ absence are subject to principal approval. Parents are permitted up to nine full days of Parent Authorized Absences/Parent Authorized Early Leaves/Parent Authorized Late Arrivals, combined, for CCS approved excuses.

  • Excused Absences require a doctor, dentist, hospital note, or other supporting documentation. An absence is recorded as excused for the following reasons:

o Personal illness

o Illness or death in the immediate household.

o Emergencies or any other occurrences or situations which, in the judgement of the principal, may necessitate absence from school for good and sufficient cause.

o Religious holiday.

o Medical or dental appointment

o College visitation

  • Students shall present a valid absence and/or early leave note signed by the parent/guardian to the 1st period teacher or the Attendance Office. Upon receipt of an early leave note, the attendance office will prepare the “Excused from School” slip and deliver it to the student via an office helper.
  • Students with chronic medical conditions requiring frequent absences must be under a physician’s care and have disabilities documentation by a physician. Homework assignments must be completed for a grade.
  • Students accumulating 7 consecutive unexcused absences, 10 unexcused absences in one month or 15 unexcused absences in a school year may result in neglect or truancy charges being filed.
  • Report phone number and address changes as soon as possible by providing a copy of your gas bill, electric bill or lease in order to receive auto-dialer absence notifications, report cards, newsletters, etc. Attendance may be monitored and teachers contacted by logging into Infinite Campus.
  • Regular and punctual school attendance enables students to derive maximum success from the instructional program and develop habits of responsibility, and self-discipline.

· Students who are tardy unexcused, must scan-in and present the printed tardy pass to their teacher. Students with an excuse note for late arrival shall proceed directly to attendance office to sign-in for an excused pass.

· Students arriving late to class with a pass from a staff member shall present the pass to their teacher, the teacher will change their mark from absent to tardy-to-class in Infinite Campus.

· Early leaves require documentation in writing signed by a legal guardian submitted at the start of the day. Students with an early-leave pass shall show the pass to their teacher and proceed to the Attendance Office to sign-out before they exit. Should a student return to school from an appointment, they shall go to the Attendance Office, present their Dr. Slip or other documentation, and fill in the time returned on the sign-out log. They may then proceed to class with a pass from the office.
